The project involved testing UMTS/WLAN/4G/5G call flows and utilized technologies relevant to the core network side. This included tools for simulating millions of sessions, verifying call flow logs, validating node behaviors, executing IMS and data calls, and conducting performance testing. The project leveraged various technologies to understand and analyze call flow statistics effectively.

GOALS

The primary goal of the project was to optimize the testing of 4G/5G call flows, specifically on the core network side. This involved working on specific frequency bands across different regions and zones. The project aimed to address various scenarios such as handovers, roaming, RAT changes, bearer upliftment, and testing multiple sessions before and after zone upgrades.

CHALLENGE

The project faced challenges centered around comprehensive testing of UMTS/WLAN/4G/5G call flows end-to-end. Performance testing, especially simulating millions of sessions on a single zone, and identifying design defects were critical challenges. A notable challenge was the absence of major updates for on-site upskilling, impacting both the project and individual growth.

SOLUTION

To address the challenges and achieve the project goals, a comprehensive set of solutions was implemented. This included providing scripts for testing UMTS/WLAN/4G/5G call flows, verifying and validating call flow logs, testing various scenarios, validating behavioral outputs from the network, and executing IMS and data calls. Regular stand-up calls, reviews, and testing sessions were conducted to ensure the project remained on track. Design defects were identified using logs, and solutions were addressed to the client. Support for maintenance window activities across different time zones was provided, and performance testing involved running loads on the zone with a substantial number of calls simultaneously.

RESULT

The implemented solutions led to positive outcomes. The project successfully optimized 4G/5G call flow testing, addressing end-to-end scenarios and performance testing challenges. Despite the absence of major on-site updates, the team effectively handled testing scripts, call flow logs, and various scenarios. The identification and resolution of design defects demonstrated the project’s commitment to delivering a robust core network. The support for maintenance window activities and performance testing resulted in a streamlined and efficient 4G/5G call flow on the core network.
